Jimm, Uninstall the Network Card drivers, then
reinstall them. Now, 
switch your Sound Card or your 56K Modem with your
Network Card. Reboot! 
Start it up and let us know what happens! It just
sounds as though the 
drivers have to be reinstalled. Don't forget to
reboot.
