Emile,
you are correct about the flaws and cooling pads. The problem as I see 
it is that the low end machines are not put together well. Many are made 
overseas and the manufacturer is not interested in making changes. They 
have a contract to make 10,000 and that is what they do. I suppose a 
laptop owner can write to the manufacturer in China with their 
complaint. :-]
