Jim,

Nothing was installed expect XP Home--bare bones. I did have Panicware 
"Pop-up Stopper" that worked really well. And as you say, I also had 
Google. The first things that popped up once I got my computer up was 
the "Found New Hardware" for my printer and scanner. Before I even got 
finished with those installations, the Messenger pop-ups started. I 
think I put a halt to them though by choosing disable in 
Administration Tools. I disabled that right off the bat the first time 
I installed XP and had no more problems with it. I just didn't want 
anything shooting messages back and forth from my computer without me 
knowing about it (or having a good reason for it).

It kind of annoys me that there are still many Web sites out there 
that still put necessary information in pop-up boxes--knowing that 
probably most people use pop-up blockers. But then, I guess they 
probably also know that it's pretty easy to hold the shift key down to 
temporarily disable it if you want to. :)
