There are two kinds of transfer in this situation, data files only OR the OS
and everything else.
If you have install disks for all the apps you care about you can simply
transfer the data files to the new machine and reinstall the applications. A
lot of work but then you will end up with the Media Center instead of the
old version of XP.
Finding the application data files can be tricky, that's why I have been
saving data files in a separate partition or a separate folder on the C
partition. To find the data files open My Computer and go to Programs Files.
Then for each application look for the files among all the folders. That is
a PITA but I don't know of any other way other than using a program that
copies everything on the old computer to the new one. I don't think that the
XP Files and settings transfer wizard will work on the data files. As far as
the actual task of transferring files is concerned one way is to temporarily
move the old hard drive to the new computer and jumper it as slave. Then
when you find the files just drag and drop them to the new computer.
