Right I will put in my ideas as well. First off I suggest you choose the biggest HD for the XP load.
The drives therefore need to be big one as master and small as slave. These are normally connected by one flat cable with two connectors, the end one goes to the maters and the middle connector to the slave. Remember to look at the jumpers on both drives to set to master slave. Your CD drives go into the secondary motherboard slot. Your BIOS will normally recognize the drives OK but in case they don't note first the list of heads etc' from the hard drive case. ALWAYS load the XP first. Your Linux will then use Grub to give you the necessary twin boot choice at start up. After loading and rebooting the computer you may find the boot sequence rather long. Come back to me for help to edit that in Linux. -------Original Message------- From: peppermark1 Date: 12/10/07 05:55:48 To: [email protected] Subject: [A-1-Computer_Tech] Hard Drive Settings In the process of upgrading my PC to XP & Linux using two HD's. One for Windows XP OS & the other for Linux OS. I think that partioning will also work? But prefer to load Windows software to xp and Linux software to Linux. In case of a problem with one or the other OS. Just a thought! A beginner in this area. Instructions call for Master, Slave & Cable Select settings for the HD. I think my bios will recognize auto select. What settings using 2 HD's would be preferred? Thought I'd post this here and see what the Group has to say? Your assistance would be very much appreciated.
