Jim are you a Linux user? If not then let me advise a little.. You always load the XP or Vista first because while Grub will recognize and set up the duel boot the MS versions will not. In the Linux version you will be able to edit the boot list to change to MS boot first or Linux.
Yes you can chose to use a single partitioned drive or two as you wish but again you must make them Master and Slave and the MS version should be on the Master or first partition. As I have already answered Pete and given him links to learn more why may I ask are you now wading in with two message that could well confuse this whole question. -------Original Message------- From: jpurcell Date: 12/10/07 18:06:13 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [A-1-Computer_Tech] Hard Drive Settings Pete, > Instructions call for Master, Slave & Cable > Select settings for the HD. I think my bios will recognize auto > select. What settings using 2 HD's would be preferred? No matter whether you use one or two HD's the boot drive will contain all the information that enables the system to boot to one of the OS's.. If you partition the boot drive and install each OS on o different partition you will have the same advantage as separate drives. Then you could put the apps on the second drive, in two separate partitions. Just an alternative option. Whichever OS you install first will not have any awareness of any other Operating Systems. Linux distros may be more likely to create a good boot loader which will give you options as to which OS to boot to. Generally one OS will be considered the default one and if no user choice is made the system will boot tot the default OS. > Thought I'd post this here and see what the Group has to say? If you want more information about dual booting I Linux group is more likely to have such since I think Linux users are more likely to install Linux with another OS, OR even several Linux versions.
