Ian,

I notice, however, that with McAfee down the drain, my MS
Word documents open just a wee bit faster -- I timed it at
about 10-15 seconds faster. So McAfee was indeed interfering
with Word. Now, if I downloaded Panda, would it be just as
nasty? Or is there something about McAfee (and perhaps
Norton) that sets up an interference? Remember, I had what
McAfee calls its "Security Suite," which is a bloated
program that includes Defrag (who needs it when you've got
the Windows Defrag?) and a bunch of unecessary features
including a confusing backup.

With all that said and done, I think I'll take you up on
your previous suggestion
What's Panda's home page? What I may do is download
the free AMG program (I have their anti-spyware and it seems
to be perfectly fine) and use it temporarily to get over the
hump. Then I'll try Panda's 30-day trial and see how that
works. Meanwhile, I've still got that terrible MCPR program,
which gave no warning or options -- the minute I
double-clicked on it, the program swung into action and
McAfee was gone. Worse yet, it didn't finish the job.
There's still a McAfee folder on my computer and subfolders in
it. I can delete the folder, but who knows what's lurking in
my Registry and elsewhere.
