I plain English Walter Norton and Mcafee both scan every change on your computer as it happens, not quite like that but it is that idea that slows things down. Panda knows what is of is not dangerous so does not just scan like that. OK the proof is in the eating it is said. Try Panda for thirty days free.
You must make an either or decision here. You can run both. Panda home page USA is: http://www.pandasecurity.com/usa/ If you ran MCPR removal tool it removed McAfee but left icons behind. Just delete those now and the folder. The MCRP cleaned the register but if you worried download If you are worried about the regiter download the free cleaner from: http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm -------Original Message------- From: Walter Blum Date: 21/12/2007 18:12:02 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [A-1-Computer_Tech] Help Virus protection Ian wrote: > > > You pay that kind of money to get the backing of a world > wide network Research team that has feed back from the > corporations, businesses and Home users about new virus > attacks and at once builds new dat files (virus scripts) > that are sent to your computer there and then. > > Not like the AVG, good as it is, that only does an update > once every time you switch on. > > That is why some people chose to pay for the better > package. > Ian, I notice, however, that with McAfee down the drain, my MS Word documents open just a wee bit faster -- I timed it at about 10-15 seconds faster. So McAfee was indeed interfering with Word. Now, if I downloaded Panda, would it be just as nasty? Or is there something about McAfee (and perhaps Norton) that sets up an interference? Remember, I had what McAfee calls its "Security Suite," which is a bloated program that includes Defrag (who needs it when you've got the Windows Defrag?) and a bunch of unecessary features including a confusing backup. With all that said and done, I think I'll take you up on your previous suggestion What's Panda's home page? What I may do is download the free AMG program (I have their anti-spyware and it seems to be perfectly fine) and use it temporarily to get over the hump. Then I'll try Panda's 30-day trial and see how that works. Meanwhile, I've still got that terrible MCPR program, which gave no warning or options -- the minute I double-clicked on it, the program swung into action and McAfee was gone. Worse yet, it didn't finish the job. There's still a McAfee folder on my computer and subfolders in it. I can delete the folder, but who knows what's lurking in my Registry and elsewhere.
