Subject: [A-1-Computer_Tech] word problems

Hi, all--I'm a professional musician and have been using Win.98 for a
few years programming my one-man show...using midi files for playing
my background. I recently bought a new laptop (Acer Aspire 5050-3242)
loaded with Win. XP Media Editon. My problem is that all my files
created on Wordpad Win. 98 won't open in the new XP machine. I have
thousands of files, song words, etc. created on Wordpad and I really
need some kind of driver or something to make the word 6.0 open in XP.
I insatlled Microsoft Office, but when it opened the wordpad files
from the old "98" program, it put it on a page with a bunch of stuff
at the top of the page instead of just the plain sheet with writing on
it. The Office program takes up about 1/3 page with different icons
for operations I will never use for my purpose. I would love to know
how to just make this XP open the old wordpad files. Any help will be
greatly appreciated. I'm obviosly not a tech, but I have been playing
with these machines "by ear" for approx. 10 years and have changed
hard drives, sound cards, floppy drives, fans, power supplies
myself...so hopefully I can understand what you tell me. Thanks!--
ROBERT--
