One thing you could try [no guarantees here] is to simply copy the Wordpad program from your Win98 machine to your Win XP machine and see if it will run. I've been hanging on to the old Windows 3.1 Cardfile program through several operating systems, and it still works. [even in Ubuntu under their Wine Windows emulator]
If it complains about not finding a certain file when you attempt to run it on the XP machine, find that file on the Win 98 machine and copy it into the system folder on your Win XP machine and try it again until you stop getting unfound file complaints. Then I suppose you could always just go download this free Wordpad replacement that can read the files you have. http://www.jarte.com/ Later, Ray Parrish d_papabear wrote: > > Hi, all--I'm a professional musician and have been using Win.98 for a > few years programming my one-man show...using midi files for playing > my background.
