Yeah, XP includes Wordpad. Start, Run, and type Wordpad. Then you can
open your old "98" files and they should display just like they did on
your old PC.
In MS Office's Word you can hide some of those "toolbars" at the top of
the screen. Just go to the "view" menu, then "toolbars", and un-check
any that you don't want displayed. You can even go to View and choose
"Full Screen" to show the document without "any" extra stuff on the screen.
If your old Wordpad docs are showing any odd, extra text when opened in
MS Word, try opening them in Word, then go to the Edit menu, select
"select all", then on the Edit menu again go to "Clear", and then choose
"Formats" to clear all the extra formatting in the document. That
should make the document plain text, which might be what you want.
