What you did was good. It doesn't hurt to get rid of unnecessary junk files. And once they're gone - they are gone. Dunno who told you they weren't. They'll eventually gradually build up again, but it'll take a Hi: Nothing that is just deleted is gone. It is still on the harddrive until it is overwritten. There are dozens of free programs that can be used to make these files readable again. And there are dozens of free progrms that can be used to overwrite them and make them irrecoverable. Hard drives that are to leave your possession should be overwritten several times if you had sensitive material on them anytime in the past.
