Dell usually let's you download drivers for specific devices - like 
chipset, audio, network, video, etc.
The drivers are usually a .exe file that you click after download and it 
opens up an installation utility.  Are you downloading a driver 
"package"?  Try finding her exact model at the Dell support site and see 
if the individual drivers are available.

Also, maybe the package you got requires XP SP2 or SP3 (and she only has 
XP SP1)?

You could also try going to Control Panel, Add New Hardware, and try 
adding a certain device.  When it asks for the driver location point it 
to the downloaded file you have.
