I'm not sure which port exactly, there's more than one back there; I'm
not very good at hardware.  I'm running off a USB modem now. If a new
internal modem will work, I'm all for it :).

Well, it wasn't drinks, honestly.  My computer is in my bedroom,
underneath a desk, which is a small table, right next to the door.  We
have a handicapped cat, smaller than our other two, and for a few
months she decided to live in my bedroom. The computer is warm... and
when scared/afraid, she's prone to let go...

You get the idea.  I thought I had mopped/cleaned everything up well
enough each time, but it seems not.

I'll start looking at internal modem cards, and might try moving the
modem to the front until things calm down.
