I have never heard of resistors doing that. But it is possible for chips on the motherboard to experience 'chip creep', where the solder securing the chips to the motherboard, has somehow started to melt, causing the chips to become loose to the point that they can easily be pulled out without having to use a chip puller. Resistors are more secure, because they can't be easily replaced. If it is the resistors on the motherboard doing that, there might be some sort of power surge.
