have you tried a system restore? if you installed any programs you will have to
reinstall them or any updates.
do you have the windows xp disk? if so open your command prompt, and type cd
C:\Windows\System32 then type sfc /scannow and enter and let it run. It will
scan and try to fix some of your system files. Hopefully it will complete with
no corruption it could not repair
