Hi,

I seem to recall James Allwright writing to this list that a>b c<d notation was more
conventional. But perhaps I took his remarks out of context, and perhaps I don't even
remember correctly. Sorry....

Frank Nordberg wrote, also about "R:hornpipe":

The abc2midi program, running in WindowsNT, doesn't recognize "R:swing". Nor does it
allow "R:none" and "R:hornpipe" in the tune body (which was one of Phil's suggestions).

Frank suggested the following notation for straight eighths in "M:C", "L:1/8",
"R:swing":
>|_BB AA (2GF (2ED|

In "R:hornpipe", both abc2midi and yaps render this as (1/2 x 4) + (2/3 * 4) = 5 beats.

Phil's refinement of this idea *does* work in both abc2midi and yaps:

>write it like this (2:2:GF (2:2:ED

By Jove, I think we've got it! Thank you all for your suggestions.

Yours,
