| | I think the easiest solution would be to allow pseudo | comments _only_ on a line by themselves.
Of course, many users (and programmers) would interpret this to verify that [%%MIDI ...] is valid in the middle of a line. After all, the [<command>] notation is used to embed what is usually a separate line inside another line. I'd thought of suggesting [%...] as a general inline comment in abc. It seems pretty obvious, and it would be fairly intuitive to most users. But then someone else pointed out that [N:...] is already usable. Possibly both would be useful. Some programs (such as the abc2ps clones) have options to show N: lines in the output. So we'd probably want [N:...] reserved for comments that you want displayed to the user when they turn on the "show N: info" option. [%...] should mean a comment that is only seen by abc software (and only acted on when it's [%%...]). When the [x:...] syntax first appeared, I was a bit disappointed that it didn't work for [%...] lines. I've long wanted to be able to embed short comments inside lines of music. Well, I wouldn't want to do it too often, but it would be useful. To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html
