Go talk to some of the Early Music crowd. A few centuries ago, it was common to draw the clef symbols at different positions on the staff. I don't know if that particular usage was ever common, but there's no question about how to draw it. The bass clef is a (highly-stylized) "F", and the little curl in the center is drawn on the F line. To get the above, you'd put that curl slightly lower, so it's in the space. Then the middle line would represent c (or C). | or (perversely) | | K:Cmaj clef=bass middle=^c I love it! What I'd expect good software to do is give a warning "The key of Cmaj doesn't contain ^c; ^ ignored." If the key does have ^c, then this is merely redundant, and should be accepted as if there were nothing funny about it. Maybe we could officially ban accidentals in the middle= clause. But I wouldnt' bother; it would outlaw harmless humor like this. To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html
