Have you noticed that those of us with U.S.A. TLDs go strangely quiet when this happens, while traffic from 'co.uk' and similar peaks?
I don't disagree with all of it, but it seems that we as Americans are supposed to feel so guilty just for being born and raised in this country, and be too ashamed to speak up to say the following while you sit and bash and bash and bash.
I like this country. It has it's share of problems, as does every country. As a democratic republic, we are in fact represented by those who make laws and treaties and agreements with other nations... As a democratic _republic_ however we don't have a direct say in everything that is done. Our representatives in government do not _always_ speak for our positions on subjects. While America is home of certain organizations like ASCAP, and RIAA, these are commercial entities, which represent _no one_ but their own capitalist interests. While they've been born and grown in America, they certainly could have been (and have been) born, or grown elsewhere in other nation(s)
The only ones who do usually speak up from the U.S. when U.S. bashing commences are those who already have a history of badmouthing the U.S., as they find themselves in the political minority and forced to go with the tide. They bash the U.S. all the time, and many of them end up hating the U.S. (who wouldn't hate a boat full of other people who keep insisting on rowing the boat in the opposite direction you wish to go). They won't actually leave the U.S., as they find the boat to be very nice, and the thwart they are sitting on to be very comfortable, and they maintain a belief that the boat could be made much better if they could convince someone to row it in the other direction.... They will however sit there while being dragged in the opposite direction and yell and grip and insult the boat and the rowers, and how the rowing is being done.
Now... back to those posting from outside the U.S.A..... and bashing the U.S.A... why don't you stick a sock in it? You honestly have the arrogance to post and post and post, knowingly hurting people's feelings, while expecting them to feel some sort of collective guilt and not object to your diatribe. You know that if you post long enough some America hating American will jump on the chance to bash from within, and lend credence to your gripe (Hey, if their own people hate America, it must be a bad place, eh?). The fact of the matter is however, that these people need little or no excuse and you're not lending credence to anything. Getting one of them to toe your political line is as simple as showing them where the line is... They already want to stand there.... You don't have to make a convincing argument... it's like trying to convince a child to come around to your way of thinking and belief structure that children should be allowed unrestricted access to sweets, tv, and not constrained by bedtimes.... Not a hard sell.... The child is already there.
I for one love America... All its virtues, and all its many shortcomings. I love all the people who love America, and all the Americans who Hate America, because whether they admit it or not, they all want the same thing (usually)... They want a better America, and a better world.
This post started with someone posting helpful information, and disintegrated into a wholesale bash on the USA.
The ironic thing is that I can't help but like most of you who have been doing the bashing.... most of the time your posts are the most constructive, and instructive for the world of ABC and you work very hard to promote ABC. I just don't like to feel that I'm being held hostage by my interests in ABC, in that if I want to stay current and involved, I must do so at the price at occasionally having to sit back and bite my tongue while a few of you start a wholesale bash fest of my home and allegiance. It's akin to a woman liking her job and going to work and working hard, but having to put up with sexist remarks and treatment from sexist bastards in order to not stir up any waves and risk loosing the job she likes. It sucks.
Can we get back to the music(notation)? (free or not :)
