Not entirely, I concluded this from a lengthy document, I came 
accross while looking for pdfTeX stuff, describing how to set up the 
ttf fonts with pdfTeX and according to the document you have to 
create the afm files for the ttf fonts you want to use. It is possible 
that this particular document is out of date, but the latest version of 
pdfTeX, still contains the utility ttf2afm.
