GTK-2 uses UTF-8 for all glyph presentations. We can use a UCS-4 => UTF-8 convertor for GTK-2 and convertors for whatever is used for windows. There are already unicode points beyond 2^16. Going to UCS-4 gives us total future compatitibilty with a very small memory penalty. Cheers Martin
