IMO, a better idea than a GUI port would be a CUI port ala Wordperfect 5.1
for DOS. This would not be a port so much as a re-write, but it would
certainly have much less overhead.

True, even Win95 runs on a 486. But X Window + GNOME? That's pushing it.
It's even moderately time-consuming on my p150. Maybe if you souped up its
RAM and swap space, but otherwise, you'd have to have infinite patience to
run anything in X under a 486.
