There are rules under the Airport Authority to provide assistance for the disabled. It is true that some airline ground staff even know how to take walk-disabled using a wheel chair to the aircraft. The problem is the recent opening up of the sector coupled with the arrival of newer airlines that has brought in staffs who have no idea how to help a disabled person.
Incidentally, I must bring to the attention of the group that recently, CNN-IBN brought out a story in which airline staffs disallowed a mentally retarded boy into the aircraft (in Bangalore) and the father of the boy, who is a Tamil actor, filmed the insensitive attitude and the unacceptable language the staffs used and sent it to the TV channel, which was broadcast to the whole nation. In that clipping a senior ground staff called the 11-year-old boy "Mad" and asked the parent how he can be allowed in? So, the insensitive and undignified treatment of the disabled is becoming alarmingly frequent in Indian airports and we must surely do something about it. But the crucial factor is that the air-lines are suppose to provide assistance from the beginning of your journey up to the port of entry irrespective of someone's mobility status.
