Hello, As far as I remember, there are rules for opening of bank account by blind persons. The problem is that most of these facilities depend on the manager's discretion. I had a sb account with SBI in Kolkata. The accounts officer objected to my wife's joining me as partner. Ultimately, the manager agreed after several arguments to allow me to convert it into a joint account with my wife. But the same accounts officer demanded a declaration from me that I shall remain responsible for any untoward incident. It seemed an insult to me and I closed the account then.
However, my wife had an old account with UBI. We approached the branch manager and he agreed to accept me as joint partner and continued the cheque facility. I cannot sign my full name. I put my initials only. The bank put my LTI on their register and assured me that I can issue a cheque with the initials if necessary. I do not do it though. All this was possible because the manager's father-in-law recently lost his vision and he faced the same problem. Fortunately for me, the manager's relative found trouble and he realised my trouble too. I do not want all managers' relatives to go blind, of course. Best regards, Amiyo.
