The slowness may be due to the configuration of RAM. Ubuntu and Orca needs at least 256 MP of RAM. 512 will be much better and 1 GB, perfect. After having inserted the CD into the rom and restarted the PC, wait for the CD to spin. When you feel it rotating, press f5 to activate accessability screen then the number 3 on the main keyboard to start orca and press enter twice. Orca will start speaking after you have reached the desktop. If Orfca does not start, press alt+f2 to activate the run command, type orca and press enter. hope this helps. One has to be a bit patient to overcome these initial issues. Before installing, you can run the Ubuntu live CD and test the ubuntu environment.
