Dear Friends, some friends have shown interest to know about Divya Nayan. I am sure every V I person would want to know more about the device. Since i have been associated with a demonstration of the device by C.S.I.O; here is a clarification in simple language:
Divya Nayan is a device with a shape of a pencil box, having sensors at the bottom and two keypads on the top. The device is to be slid from to bottom of the printed page, book or any other printed material. It takes a few seconds to convert the scanned text into audio output. The text is read out to you. The device supports ten languages including Hindi and Punjabi. There are ports to insert USB drive and micro SD card. WiFi connectivity is available for streaming news over radio, etc. you can call it a daisy/media player with converting text to speech capabilities. The device will be made available after giving initial training/orientation at major locations in the country. Since it is C.S.I.R project under the Government of India; large scale production is likely to be entrusted after seeing the response, through registration. No charges to be paid during registration. You have the choice to return the device within a month, if you purchase it after the training. Here is an excerpt from the latest communication received from C.S.I.O: CSIO, Chandigarh invites the participation of visually impaired people and/or their associated institutions in Technology Intervention and Validation for Inclusiveness (TIVI) programme via a portal, aligned with the CSIR’s Harnessing Appropriate Rural Interventions and Technologies (HARIT). This programme aims at Rural Intervention of Divya Nayan, to the unprivileged such people in aspirational districts of various majorly Indian states but not limited to Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar. It would be implemented through a series of dedicated workshops designed to train the users, making them familiar with the device functionality and capable of using the device independently. Since there is a limited pilot production at first instance, therefore users who register themselves for device training workshop will be preferred for the initial distribution of devices. Further programme details are available at https://divyanayan.csio.res.in/registration.php This portal allows visually impaired individuals and institutions associated with such people for active participation in this activity. While a lot of other technical information including Audio Tutorials are available at the same website's other pages at https://divyanayan.csio.res.in/ Hope this will clarify most of the doubts about the usability and functionality of the device, as well as payment terms.
