We have been receiving large number of calls from visually impaired persons
living in different parts of the country seeking help with their challenges
in procuring the UDID card. In August 2021, I decided to apply for a UDID
card to see if the problems shared by our various callers were genuine.
Though I had submitted my application in August, I did nothing about it.
However in December post Christmas I decided to pursue my application. I
was delighted when my disability certificate and my UDID card were formally
issued on the UDID portal. I was informed that I could download and start
using the documents. This was January 7, 2022. When I visited the portal in
mid-January I learnt that my UDID card had been sent for printing. I was
pleased. Progress was being made. By mid-February I noticed that the status
on the portal showed dispatched to PWD )Person With Disability). I was
thrilled and marveled at the efficiency of the MSJE. However, interestingly
the status on the portal even as I write this narrative says "Dispatched to
PWD". I am told by reliable sources that the cards are printed in Chennai
and then dispatched by regular post. Well today is the 12th of May, I wonder
if the postman is walking with the UDID card from Chennai to Delhi.

I must say, I empathise with all those folks who have been struggling with
the UDID card. I think all of us who have applied for the UDID card and are
still doing the waiting must write to the CCPD and flood her inbox. Today
the CCPD and the Secretary MSJE is the same.

Best,

George
