Today's Thought of discussion Has anyone here been stopped at a mall entrance just because you’re blind or visually impaired?
Not because you can’t shop. Because someone assumed you won’t. That assumption is expensive for malls too. Every time a guard blocks someone “for crowd flow” or asks “who is with you?”, the mall doesn’t just hurt dignity — it loses footfall, repeat visits, trust, and loyalty. India has a huge visually impaired customer base. You are independent, tech-enabled, and ready to spend — yet you’re still treated like an inconvenience at entrances. At Rising Star Khilte Chehre (RSKC), we’re raising this as an awareness issue that must be called out — by guards, managers, and also by bystanders who choose silence. Now we want to hear from you: City + mall name What exactly happened at the gate? What should staff have done instead? YES/NO: Should malls be required to publish and follow an accessibility SOP at the entrance? If YES — what must be in it (one line)? If NO — what’s the alternative that still protects dignity and safety? *Context* India is losing a big customer base at the Public Space and MarketPlace Blind and visually impaired Indians today are tech-savvy and independent — using screen readers, UPI, cabs, maps, shopping apps, and smartphones daily. They are not “helpless”. They are customers. The scale is not small: Widely cited estimate puts India at ~4.95 million blind people and ~70 million people with visual impairment. () That’s a massive customer base. Independent. Earning.
