Hi
India post also has its India post Bank. This too needs to be accessible.

Hi Praveen,
This is a significant barrier, especially since the audio CAPTCHA gets
us through the "front door" only to leave us in a "dark room"
regarding the actual tracking data.
Because India Post is a government service, we have specific legal and
administrative channels to escalate this. Here is the contact
information and the recommended path for a grievance:
*NOTE: All these recommendations and steps to address the challenge
come from Gemini*
1. The Department of Posts (Headquarters):
• Secretary (Posts): [email protected]
• Director General (Postal Services): [email protected]
• Chief General Manager (Parcel Directorate):
[email protected] (This department handles the tracking
infrastructure).
2. The Official Grievance Portal (CPGRAMS):
The most effective way to get a tracked response is to file a
complaint on pgportal.gov.in. Mention that the website violates the
GIGW (Guidelines for Indian Government Websites) and the RPwD Act 2016.
3. Social Media:
Tagging @indiapostoffice and the @AshwiniVaishnaw (Minister of
Communications) on X (formerly Twitter) with a screen recording of the
screen reader failing to read the table often gets faster technical
attention.
I have drafted a formal letter below that you can use to send to these
email IDs.

Subject: URGENT: Accessibility Barrier on India Post Tracking Results
Page for Visually Impaired Users
Respected Sir/Madam,
I am writing to bring to your immediate attention a serious
accessibility flaw on the India Post official website regarding the
Consignment Tracking service.
While we appreciate the inclusion of an audio CAPTCHA, which allows
visually impaired users to bypass the initial security check, the
results page following the CAPTCHA is currently inaccessible to screen
reader users (such as NVDA, JAWS, and TalkBack).
Specific Issues Observed:
1. Non-Standard Tables: The tracking results (booking details and
transit history) are not coded using standard HTML table tags (, , ).
Consequently, screen readers cannot navigate the rows and columns to
tell the user where the package is.
2. Focus Management: Once the "Track Now" button is pressed, the
screen reader focus does not automatically move to the results, making
it difficult for a blind user to realize the page has even updated.
3. Missing Aria-Labels: Status updates lack proper descriptive labels,
resulting in the screen reader remaining silent or simply saying "Blank."
Legal Requirement:
Under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, and the
mandatory Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW), all
government digital services must be accessible. The current state of
the tracking portal is a violation of these mandates as it denies
equal access to essential postal information.
Requested Action:
We request the IT cell to ensure the tracking results are presented in
a properly labeled ARIA-compliant table structure so that transit
updates can be read chronologically by screen readers.
We look forward to a prompt resolution to ensure "India Post for All."
Yours faithfully,
Praveen [and/or Members of the AccessIndia Community]
