Amar, Some laptops do have a feature to turn off the monitor. If they do not, you could always try the laptop battery saver from http://www.techno-vision.co.uk which is what I do.
As for time, I have got about 2 hours extra. A lot depends on what you are doing with the laptop and the condition of the laptop battery.
