Hi, For all those who might consider purchasing VRS in future, read on. In my personal opinion, buying Victor Reader Stream is not a good choice. The decision to buy this product should depend on what you want it most for. To put my point across as succinctly as possible, I will do a feature by feature analysis of the product.
• State-of-the-art DAISY, MP3, ans NISO player Books in DAISY/ NISO format constitute 20 % or even less of the total reading material of any Indian visually challenged. • Removable SD card for storing books, e-text files, music, and voice recordings and audio bookmarks Other media players also have enough memory to stor your audio content. The bookmarking facility of MP3 and other formats is available in Apple’s iPod, and in audio book player software that can be run on some Nokia phones as well. • Ability to play NLS download books and NLS book cartridges (for eligible members) Not applicable for people living in India. • Built-in human sounding text-to-speech (Nuance Vocalizer ) I consider this the only real benefit of VRS. It will be able to carry and read your electronic text books. • Voice recording capability via built-in microphone or external microphone Digital voice recorders like that of Sony’s are specially built for this purpose. They also have better recording quality. • Playback through stereo headphones or secondary small speaker I personally know some VRS users that complain about the sound quality that comes out of VRS speakers. But, I guess that is a matter of opinion. • USB port to transfer books and music from your PC • User replaceable Rechargeable battery providing 15 hours playtime • Built-in battery charger (four hours for full recharge) • Includes switchable external power adapter for use in multiple countries • Stylish look with high contrast keys and buttons • Attractive carrying case with belt clip All good media players have these features. I personally like Plextalk Pocket PTP1 that is similar to VRS, but a definitely superior product. http://www.plextalk.com/in/ptp1/index.html Regards --- On Tue, 2/17/09, rajasekhar <[email protected]> wrote: > From: rajasekhar <[email protected]> > Subject: Re: [AI] Victor stream reader > To: [email protected] > Date: Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 12:24 PM > dear friends, > any users of the Victor stream reader on the list? > I wish to have your feedback before purchasing the same. > regards, > Rajasekhar > Hyderabad > > ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vamshi.
