I have been reading these emails on accessindia.
The RBI is not thick skinned since they are very well aware of our needs. If we have a problem we have to tell them. I doubt if anyone has shot a letter to the RBI expressing our displeasure. By shouting amongst ourselves we will get nowhere. I have found the RBI top brass to be very understanding an courteous as well as on our side.

On the legal front it is a decent case but not a brilliant case. Others may disagree I am not here to argue on the merits. If I am appointed as the lawyer to handle this matter I will argue the merits in court. but if we want to go to Court there has to be some discipline from our side. As a lawyer I dont want to take the entire burden-financial burden is one of the issues but not the only one. , . I find that NGO clients are very enthusiastic in the beginning but then lose focus and interest. However as a lawyer I am stuck with the matter for an eternity. The commitment is lacking. Please do not attack me on this statement this is my view.

The best place to file this case would be in Mumbai, Delhi or Nagpur but that does not stop anyone from filing anywhere else in the country. I am in no hurry to rush into this matter. If someone else wants to do it please go ahead. Bombay High Court will start vacation on 9th May 2009. We have only 8 working days till then. Maybe I can move it in the vacation if required.

I think there is a need for actions at two different levels simultaneously. On the legal front there is an urgent need for securing a stay against the government in general and RBI in particular. Second on the social front, a series of protests should be organized by various leading organizations thereby making our voices heard by the thick skinned officials who otherwise turn a blind eye and deff ear to our accesibility issues.

Subject: [AI] Rs. 10 coin

Hello all

Wondering if any organization on the list is planning to move the court to bring a stay on distribution of the new Rs. 10 coin.

The issue has turned cold here.

The more time we take to act, the lesser chance we have a chance to get it implemented. This coin shall only effect the blind and shall not affect the elderly as there is a good contrast for differentiating it visually.

The size of the coin is exactly the same with one series of Rs. 2 coin except the Rs. 10 coin is marginally thicker.

Presently, The engraving is crisp however it will be of little use in a period of time.

There is a need to stop this arbitrary changing of size shape and dimension of the coins. Dexterity is an important characteristic of good coin design. When there is sufficient scope of making the coins accessible then it is necessary to press for it.

Harish.
