Somehow, kanchan, your messages are striking the list thrice! Yes, anandvan did some good work for VI a while ago, but unfortunately, they have since at least for the time being, discontinued the computer training for the blind/disabled, perhaps due to lack of funding...... The girl teaching there is now in Nagpur ITI conducting a government run six month computer course for blind. That's the only computer training facility in orange city and around for the VI, even though a few persons have successfully taken training through mainstream institutes and have passed certificate exams as well..
So, let us make the people of Vidharbha aware and build some useful infrastructure for training/education as well. I too appeal to one and all to respond positively to this one day event in May. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Kanchan Pamnani Sent: Wednesday, April 27, 2011 8:07 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [AI] Awareness building workshop in Vidharba, Maharashtra You must visit Anand Van i.e. Baba Amte's place. I will send you the phone no. of someone working there. I think Rajesh also knows her. I have been very interested with the work done there. I think they are doing something really great. Also please tell all the visually challenged that after the High Court's recent orders the visually challenged are going to have technology provided by the State govt at their work place so they have to learn technology before they go to the jobs. No more excuses of sitting idle and not being allowed to do anything. I have been speaking to organisations around Maharashtra about training but I dont see much interest maybe because of lack of resources. However there is no choice and the visually challenged will have to get trained. Also when you speak to people please emphasise on software like NVDA and Dolphin and not so much on JAWS. Whoever had this brilliant idea of going to the interiors of Maharshtra in peak summer is brave. Good luck to the team.
