Subject: Re: [AI] Blind man held for raping blind friend's blind wife

I am really shocked.
I am not so shocked with the incident as I am shocked with the reactions of
this group. Some one is saying we should be positive, someone is saying that
he is not sharing this information someone is saying how life is difficult
and how difficult it is to commit a crime when you are blind, someone goes
further to say that we should not discuss this on this list.
Come on folks lets grow up and see the news for what it is without
sensationalising the story.

This is not news that can be brushed under the carpet and kept away from
others.

When we share success stories of people with blindness on this list then why
cant we share their failures too.

Yes rape is committed by both blind and non blind and that is not
newsworthy.

On this group everyone has commented about the accused. No one has commented
about the primary victim and the secondary victim.
Dont forget that there were 3 Blind people in this story.

The vulnerability of the Disabled woman is something she has to be more
careful of than other women. How many men try and touch and feel blind
women. Just because blind men cant see does that mean they dont touch? does
it mean that other men are not touching blind women while the blind man is
in the same room?

How can a woman protect herself from a man in whose care she has been placed
by her husband?

What about prostitution? What about blind men marrying blind women so that
these so called wives can be used as income generators.

What about the sexuality of a blind woman? Not directly applicable in this
story but may be used as a defence in case this matter really goes to trial.

Havent we learnt from this story to be more careful and not even to trust
our blind male friends? Do you think we should have been deprived of this
story?

What about the husband?
Atleast in this story the police lodged a complaint. Imagine if you have to
lodge a complaint and you are blind-90% of the time the police wont lodge
the complain whatever it may be. So this man was lucky .

As a man he has no sense to leave his wife in another man's care? Should he
or could he not have taken better care of her? We dont know the
circumstances so we cant comment on this issue but so many of you are male
and married on this group- is it not your duty whether you are blind or not
to ensure that your wife whetehr she is blind or not, is protected to the
best of your ability.
What about his personal thoughts at this moment-so many times we think of
our helplessness in some situations. I am not taking away from our
achievements. No amount of technology, no personal helper, cane, guide
dog,etc. etc. helps.

The husbands on this group have been shaken up a little and thats good for
them and their wives. Its not good for society to read negative news about
the Blind but the Blind are also part of the same society.

Thank you for sharing this news item, I would have otherwise missed it.
