I wonder the difference between Visa and Maestro is really historic. To my understanding visa has an expiry date, which means after that date your card will become unusable and the bank is required to send a new card although with the same card number but with different CVV and indeed with a new expiry date. Whereas the Maestro card doesn't mention the expiry date on it, which to my understanding can be used for an unlimited period. to another query, I've used my Visa card on my foreign websites which do not required the so called extra authentication layer and still the transaction is validated, so to me, this extra security layer doesn't really solve your purpose unless it is valid for all merchants sites. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Amar Jain" <[email protected]> To: "accessindia" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, September 18, 2012 3:06 PM Subject: Re: [AI] SBI Card Registration.
As said by Mahendra bhaiya, it may be asking for your postal address if you are ordering something etc. Coming back to difference between visa and Maistro, today that distinction is mainly historic. However, for our purposes, I would confine to distinguishing between these too. The major distinguishing point is their logo, and what is written on the card "Visa" or "Maistro". I am afraid, I have no perception of how these logos look like. Means I never bothered to find out! One of the problem why your transaction is getting declined could be if you are trying to use this VISA debit card on such a portal where only international debit cards are accepted. For example, Paypal (specially ordering something from U.S.). The reason of these cards not working there is due to the wrong implementation of Verified By Visa security by our banks. International portals don't have this extra authentication layer implemented, whereas our banks have implemented it everywhere. And that is the reason, whenever we transact on such portals, the transaction gets declined. The only card which has worked successfully within my knowledge is that of Axis bank. The solution is to use vurtual credit cards, provided that they work on the international portals which can be verified on the issuing bank's website. For example, SBI vurtual credit card doesn't work. Otherwise, one may use Entropay, which charges you some % of the transaction as their charge for giving vurtual card. I am not going right now into what these cards mean, and how things work. If all this explanation goes in vain and if it is not applicable to you, then please come up with the transaction which you are trying to do, then listers may be able to give some solution.
