Now this thread is going in the right direction.
Unfortunately accessibility of all the devices having small L.E.D screens is
a major issue.
Because of this most ACs and their remotes are not accessible to the
visually impaired.

The only work around I have found and can suggest is to get those models in
which the tempreture settings do not change even after switching off the AC.
In these models one can get sighted assistance to set it up for a tempreture
and mode which is generally acceptable such as 22 degree celcius and COOL
mode.
After that just use the remote to switch it ON or Off. My Panasonics and
Onida has this option but the Electrolux doesn't.

Now a days few Air Conditioners can be controlled with an app in the mobile
phone. This may be a good option for us.

Some of the split air conditioners have a remote that is without the screen
and can be accessible.

I found a thermostat that has talking functions. I believe it can be
installed with select split ACs but I wonder if we can get this service in
India.

It will be wonderful if someone can report an accessible model or another
solution to this problem.

BTW: I tried to read the text on the remote screen with Google Goggles and
ScanThing. It reported all text printed on the remote but not the vital
information inside the little screen.

With regards,
Prashant
