Dear Eki Bhaiya, As on date IRDA has remained mum on the issue of insurance and disability. Although they have been happily publisizing the fact that they are considering the insurance for people with disability from 2012 onwards. Few months back also there was a news article which said that a discussion paper in this regard may be out soon.
Blind Graduates Forum of India (BGFI) had submitted its memo to IRDA Chairman in 2012. At that time they were treating people with disability and H.I.V. affected persons together. My repeated emails to IRDA officials have got no response on this aspect. Apart from L.I.C. internal letter, Postal Insurance Scheme, and a Government scheme, I am not aware of any other document which is issued by any insurance company / regulatory body on this aspect. General treatment of insurers have been to accept the proposal of the policy holder with some additional riders or extra premium on the ground of disability. My suggestion would be that move your application, and lets wait to hear from them. In an unlikely situation if your application is denied, then lets contest it legally. Would be happy to have the guidance of others on the list, because this is one area where I intend to target. Congratulations for the home purchase initiative, now eagerly waiting for the wedding card (smiles)! Regards -- Amar Jain.
