My dear fellow bank employees with visual impairment Today is going to be a red letter day in the history of Indian financial sector and disability movement. Today, we, as the employees of the banking finance and insurance sector who are visually challenged have come together as the "Visually Impaired Bank Employees Welfare Association" VIBEWA. I am privileged to launch the association with you all on this day. On my behalf as the first president of this body, and on behalf of all my co-workers in the executive committee, I assure you all that we would ceaselessly endeavor to empower all employees with all degrees of visual impairment in the banking, finance and the insurance sector. It is a matter of satisfaction that the sector is giving employment to VI as statutorily mandated. However, we need to go well beyond this, though this itself is fraught with challenges. Going beyond entails procuring meaningful work, job satisfaction, a fully accessible and enabling work environment, non discrimination in all stages and aspects of career including but not limited to training, promotion etc., parity with non disabled staff taking cognizance of special requirements arising out of visual challenges at the same time, and many more such things. The situation in law and on the ground is far from satisfactory. So, we have decided to strive for our betterment and the betterment of the sector and build a momentous platform for the purpose. The association is the fruit of much hard work put in by our founders for last couple of years. However, the association cannot yield fruit without your active cooperation. I, as the first president, and as a fellow visually impaired bank employee, call upon all of you, to associate with the association in thought word and deed! Become the member and witness the change! Nay, be a part of the change! We individually or collectively, cannot bring utopia overnight, but we collectively, can march on and give a more accessible, a more satisfying, a more enabling, a more positive, a more equal, a more equitable, a more meaningful career to ourselves and to those aspiring to succeed us.
