Whatever I have written in this discussion, all those are my opinions
and views. I apologize if anyone was hurt by them. I do not encourage
'only' technology and 'completely' discourage learning of Braille. Let
me be more clear on my views.
I feell that technology is a more efficient method of note taking,
because, all sighted people can read and review the work on computers
and most cannot read and review Braille, Netbooks are portable devices
while Braillers are generally not, and when I make a comparison of the
blind people I know studying in grades lower than me, those who are
using laptops are happier than those who are using Braille. Through a
Parents Support group, my mother also got a call from a mother who
said that her son who studies in JKCN (a really posh school in Mumbai)
struggles, and she said that her son was using Braille and had a
shadow teacher.
My experience about education for the blind is limited, okay, but
probably my experience will be accurate and current in terms of
today's inclusive education, since my comments are based on personal
experience.
I am not criticising NGOs, but just requesting them to adapt the newer
technology, and use them in conjunction with Braille, rather than
using only Braille.
Please understand that I am not affluent, I only have a laptop of my
own, caring parents and support from a great organization, no
additional device or tutor.
Also, when you use the Reply feature in GMail webmail instead of the
Quick Reply, you have to use in line posting, i.e. posting in answer
to a particular piece of text.
Also, I am not answering to each post, only to thos where I think I
have something to say.
I apologize again if I have hurt anyone.
