hi, Be clear. 1. A pdf file may contain only textual material. It needs no ocr. 2. A pdf file may contain only scanned material. It needs ocr. 3. A pdf file may contain both textual and scanned material. To access the textual material portion ocr is not necessary but for the scanned material portion ocr is the only solution. Again, be further clear. apart pdf, these three condition are also equally applicable to other file formats like MS word or MS power point etc.
Now, What is jpg file? First of all be clear: there can be many format of scanned images. jpg, png are the example. scanned material means a single block of image/photo as a single unit which may contain the image of a letters and any other object. Hence the term jpg as you are using must be substituted as scanned copy. This is the appropriate word for image format. Among scanned copy format, jpg is one of the type. The word scanned is like the word toothpaste and the term jpg is like colgate or binaca! ocr is the only solution for scanned copy. Hence jpg file can be accessed if a ocr of that language is available. hope it clears you. Finally, as I understand, Malayalam ocr is the final solution of your thirst.
