PS are Postscript Printer files. You need Ghostscript
Ghostscript is the name of a set of software that provides:

An interpreter for the PostScript (TM) language, with the ability to
convert PostScript
language files to many raster formats, view them on displays, and print
them on printers
that don't have PostScript language capability built in;

An interpreter for Portable Document Format (PDF) files, with the same
abilities;

The ability to convert PostScript language files to PDF (with some
limitations) and vice
versa; and

A set of C procedures (the Ghostscript library) that implement the
graphics capabilities that
appear as primitive operations in the PostScript language.

Main web page

Ghostscipt page

The primary FTP site for Ghostscript is ftp://ftp.cs.wisc.edu/ghost

Obtain a list of lists maintained by this mail server:

     Listproc: LISTS
     LISTSERV: LISTS
(to obtain a list of all known LISTSERV
                    lists, send the command
                    LISTS GLOBAL;
to search for LISTSERV lists with a given
keyword or character string in the
                    description, send the command
                    LISTS GLOBAL /[keyword],
                    e.g., LISTS GLOBAL /LAW.)
     Mailbase: LISTS
     Mailserv: DIRECTORY/LIST
     Majordomo: LISTS

Join a list:

     Listproc: SUBSCRIBE [listname] Firstname Lastname
                    (e.g., SUBSCRIBE LAW-LIB John Doe)
     LISTSERV: SUBSCRIBE [listname] Firstname Lastname

     Mailbase: JOIN [listname] Firstname Lastname
                    (e.g., JOIN LAW-EUROPE John Doe)
     Mailserv: SUBSCRIBE [listname] Firstname Lastname
                    (e.g., SUBSCRIBE ENVIROLAW John Doe)
(Optionally, include the e-mail address at
which you wish to receive list mail:)
                    SUBSCRIBE [listname] Firstname Lastname
[address]
     Majordomo: SUBSCRIBE [listname]
                    (e.g., SUBSCRIBE ELAW-J)
(Optionally, include the e-mail address at

fpt.vn is not a valid domain name at Internic or Apnic or Ripe. These
three sites cover all domains names in the world, Europe or
Asia-Pacific region.

If a whois search can't find the domain, then www4mail isn't going to
find it either.

Use gophermail or ftpmail by parts.

>and what is an IP address?

An identifier for a computer or device on a
TCP/IP network. Networks using the TCP/IP
protocol route messages based on the IP (Internet Protocol)
address of the destination. The format of an IP
address is a 32-bit numeric address written as
four numbers separated by periods. Each
number can be zero to 255. For example,
1.160.10.240 could be an IP address.

Within an isolated network, you can assign IP
addresses at random as long as each one is
unique. However, connecting a private network
to the Internet requires using registered IP
addresses (called Internet addresses) to avoid
duplicates.

The four numbers in an IP address are used in
different ways to identify a particular network
and a host on that network. The InterNIC
Registration Service assigns Internet
addresses from the following three classes.

Class A - supports 16 million hosts on each of 127 networks
Class B - supports 65,000 hosts on each of 16,000 networks
Class C - supports 254 hosts on each of 2 million networks

The number of unassigned Internet addresses
is running out, so a new classless scheme
called CIDR is gradually replacing the system based on classes A,
B, and C and is tied to adoption of IPv6.

From: Alex Cockell <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: SMTP - POP - IMAP

Hi folks,

Umm - not exactly right. SMTP is a peer-to-peer message transfer
system, mainly used between mail server processes (Messaging Transport
Agents), but only used by mail user agents to *submit* messages.

Typically, when a mailserver needs to send a message, it'll try to
establish a TCP connection to the SMTPD process on the destination - or
on another intermediate machine along the route. It identifies itself,
lists the recipients, then sends the message.

Email goes from host to host, until it reaches the destination
mailstore, where, in a dynamic IP environment, POP3 or IMAP take over.

Authentication of SMTP servers is often done by performing a Reverse
DNS search on the sender's IP address, to see if it matches the FQDN
given in the ID (HELO or EHLO dialogue).

POP3 and IMAP4 are Mailstore-to-MUA (Mail User Agent) protocols. The
MUA is the mail client you use (Elm, Pine, Outlook, Eudora et al), the
mailstore is the directory or file where the user's mail is queued
(/var/spool/mail/<login> on Unix, /mail/<login> on Lotus Notes etc).

They work kinda like Poste Restante or the PO Box system. The MUA
authenticates itself, and basically asks "OK, what have you got for
me?". Messages are then dumped to the MUA.

The difference between POP and IMAP is that while POP is a *delivery*
protocol, IMAP enables a mail-client to manipulate and process mail in
the store - more like the corporate stuff like Notes.

I could go into more detail, but I'm tired. Anyone want to continue
with this?
