ok the line of the document that causes the problem is a line which begins
with the word "begin". this cause your software to assume that here comes
a uuencoded attachment, while it is only a line which begins with this
word.
Try to save as is, and it is not an attachment, just a word that confuses
your software.

A few years ago, before the Internet "got large", I heard that institutions
were moving away from RFC822 e-mail to X.400. If they are, they are hiding
behind an Internet gateway.
Is there anyway to learn if say utexas.edu has an X.400 gateway I could use?

Two general ways to overcome this program's confusion:
a) to get the file in zip and uuencoded format. In this way the line will
not appear explicitly and will thus not confuse your e-mail program.
e.g. you may get the full 4u series in z zip format via:
http://www.wireworm.com/4useries/4useries.zip
I guess although am not sure, that Binky allows you to get the file in a
zipped and uuencoded version.
The second option, that should work, is to save the file into a dedicated
folder (a one that is dedicated only to this file) and then to open the
folder using a regular text editor (instead of using the e-mail program).
For best competability with whatever e-mail program you use, it is best to
save the file from the text editor into a different name and then to leave
the original folder untouched, to be handled (usually to be deleted) using
the e-mail program. The saved copy can then be handled using a regular
text editor, and it has the email4u file including the e-mail headers.

I'm not Gerry, but I guess that I can also answer:
A program that will convert Pegasus style folders into Unix format can be
found on:
http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~stephenk/files/mailconv.zip
A Unix format is a readabler format.
(you can convert to a Netscape format which is compatible with
Unix format).
Pegasus (recent versions) also have the option to open a folder in
a Unix-like format, and after opening such a folder you can move the files
from your recent folder to the Unix-like one, and read it via a text
editor.
I note in passing that the Unix format of Pegasus is not really a Unix
format, although it is very similar to it. It is not 100% compatible with
Unix format.

http://mango.human.cornell.edu/kens/MoreFAQ.html#Pegasus
has some information about Pegasus file conversions.
Other links to explore branch from the Pegasus Mail U.S. Home Page,
http://www.pegasus.usa.com.
Another option is the Programmer's File Editor, freeware from
http://www.lancs.ac.uk/people/cpaap/pfe/
I just loaded a .pmm file into it and it loaded just fine.
All a .pmm file is is a text file, perhaps using Unix text conventions (LF
instead of CR/LF) and if you're just looking to extract text, it shouldn't be
much trouble.

I find myself replying to my messages.
While we were talking about Pegasus mail I got a message telling me that
recently (May 1999) a new vwersion of Pegasus mail for Windows has been
released. As you know it is a freeware.
It is version 3.11
The announcement looked like: "A new version of Pegasus for Windows
(3.11)" and it took me time to understand that the (3.11) does not refer
to the version of Windows but rather to the version of Pegasus.
I heard that they fixed a few bugs that were on the previous version
(3.01d). The size is about 3Mb. See: http://www.pmail.com .

Nope. It still works fine and is free. The result of your request was
due to a pop-up ad on the web page you retrieved.

Hi, ACCMAILers & Gerald E. Boyd!
I'm afraid to seem bored, but your answer did not satisfy me.
>The HREF you are referring to is called a relative reference. The
>reference is related to the location of the original web page.
...
I understand difference between relative reference & relative link.
And BASE HREF= command is familiar to me.
That's not the point.
Now I'll try to explain it by different way, using real site's names
& file's names.
When I don't know exactly file name that I want, but know server's
address I just send command TSOURCE HTTP://WWW.SOMEWHERE.NET
to www4mail server.
In reply I get attached file named HERE_NET.HTM
For example. TSOURCE HTTP://WWW.DEEP-PURPLE.COM returns to me
file RPLE_COM.HTM. Though I know exactly that _real_file_name
is WELCOME.HTM. That's the point.
Next. RPLE_COM.HTM (or WELCOME.HTM ?) contain reference
<A HREF="rosas/lyrics/">Lyrics/tabs</A>. Of course, I send
TSOURCE HTTP://WWW.DEEP-PURPLE.COM/ROSAS/LYRICS/
and receive file S_LYRICS.HTM. Though it's real name is different.
And now the same question: How can I figure out real file name?
During writting this letter arise another question (maybe more
interesting than previous:
How do mailserver (and not only it) know what file send to me
if file name isn't given?
You may ask legal question. What for it for me?
Answer. Just I want to build local mirrors of small pieces
some web-servers.

Got it now. Sorry about previous misunderstanding.
The wwwmail servers return an attachment in the old DOS 8.3 format.
That is, an 8 character filename followed by a 3 character extension.
Hence, long URL requests are truncated to a 8.3 format.
If you send for http://www.yahoo.com/ page you will get AH00_COM.HTM
if you send for http://www.infind.com/ page you will get FIND_COM.HTM
Notice have the period (.) in addresses are replaced by the underline
(_) and the format is in DOS 8.3
The true web page can always be found in the attachment by looking at
the line that contains the hidden name=XBASE value=BASE line.
For instance, the yahoo page above:
<INPUT TYPE = hidden name = XBASE value = BASE VALUE "http:
//www.yahoo.com//headbodycenterformaction=http://search.yahoo.com/bin/se
[...]
omit everything after the headbody
Here is a yahoo attachment after searching for my old favorite term "spam"
The attachment name was H_P_SPAM.HTM
The XBASE line
<INPUT TYPE = hidden name = XBASE value = BASE HREF "http:/
/search.yahoo.com/bin/search?p=spam" >
Notice that www4mail took the last 8 characters and converted
"h?p=spam" to
H_P_SPAM and added the ".HTM" file extension.
Works like this everytime...

I used it y couple of times but it always hung up and didn't finish
the job.
If you only want to have your Mails in a readable format try a rickt-
click on the Message(s) in the Folder and chose "Save to File...".
This will save the Mails into one or more Files as plain ascii so you
can read them.

Subject: www4mail and cookies
Some web-servers (for example <http://www.onelist.com>) refuse to work
without cookies. Both getweb and www4mail ignore requests of web-servers
to store cookies and reply that there isn't a cookie.
Steve Song, the administrator on unganisha.idrc.ca (there was getweb
there sometime) replied to me about getweb:
> the code is no longer being maintained.
But as I understand, author of www4mail software is on this list.
I would like to ask to add to www4mail the feature: handling of cookies
in filtering mode. IMHO it's possible and not very difficult.
When web-server requests to store a cookie, www4mail should include an
<input type=hidden ...> tag with content of cookie into filtered
HTML source. When completed form is processed by www4mail: 1) if web-server
asks for cookie, www4mail should send content of appropriate cookie
taken from completed form; 2) if web-server didn't request to delete
a cookie, www4mail should include an <input type=hidden ...> tag with
content of the cookie taken from completed form into filtered HTML source.
This feature would in particular make possible for accmailers-only
to create and moderate mailing lists on ONElist.
Many thanks in advance!
