Yeah, I was just hassling you. All in fun. But I hope the message got thru,
too. I have no problems ruthlessly deleting messages when I know what they're
about. But I feel awkward when I don't know what it's about.

At <http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Stadium/1769/smtp.html> there is a
list of open SMTP servers that (at least yet) have not set up a relay block
mechanism. Particularly, I have used mail.dunkerton.k12.ia.us frequently as a
backup SMTP server and it's worked quite well.

I would encourage you to keep the existence of this list "under your hat", so
to speak, 1) because these appear to be school-related servers (your tax
dollars at work) and 2) because if the spammers get hold of this list, you
can imagine how they'll bombard them with their crap and that list will go
from 50 open servers to zero. (And that goes for the rest of the folks on
this list!)

Subject: look for answer

Hello,

Every time I use www4mail server fetching html index file, the annotation in
it say that if you want to get other html files linked with above one, you must
check the box before every item you want, and these requests will be submitted
in e-mail form immediately.But I
receive nothing after doing this.I think it is relevant with my email
system:I am in a LAN,so must add something after email address when
I want to make internet mail, isn't it? Can you help me?

Subject: Advanced LISTSERV commands

Dear friends of AccMail:

I have a couple of questions which I expect someone might answer:

Is it possible to receive the AccMails in DIGEST, NOMIME and not
including postings containing the word (e.g.) MERCURY?

I know I can ask SET ACCMAIL DIGEST NOMIME, but I am also
interested in excluding a word.

If the answer is yes, please tell me how-to. Furthermore, is it
possible to do it in other LISTSERV-based lists?

Thanks in advance.

Subject: Accessing the internet beyond 1999; a possible and free solution for
         some

Sorry if this may be stretching things a little to make this
an on-topic post. But I think I've seen worse....

I just enjoyed reading Mr. Boyd's article "The Millennium
Bug: A programmer's story" found at

                http://members.tripod.co.uk/netmi

Thanks, Gerald, for writing it. I felt compelled to comment
on one passage:

> PC clock timers and operating systems probably won't be
> affected as much as the above due to the fact that most BIOS
> (Basic Input Output System) chips have been changed in newer
> PC since the 90s to carry a four character year. Only old 286,
> 386, and early 486s with old BIOS chips and running old DOS
> versions would be affected.

My comment is that there may be many machines being used
with a very similar problem. I found that mine, made in 1994,
won't work with years beyond 1999. The system itself rolls over
to 2000 fine but when you re-boot it comes back as the year 2094.
This happens for any year beyond 1999. The fault lies in the
CMOS. Researching this on the net, by e-mail of course, I find
that as late as 1998 such machines may have been made and that
their only available fix is, at the very cheapest, an 8 bit
ISA card for around $80.00!

Now to the point, I made a little program to conveniently
work around this problem. It isn't much, I'm not an accom-
plished programmer by any means; rank amateur in fact. I am very
pleased, though, with the way it inexpensively and effectively
resolves the problem. So, I'll be using this machine to access
the internet via e-mail into the next millennium, God willing.

I thought others might benefit from it too. I know there
are many, like me, for whom going out and buying new hardware is
not an easy option. The program is ENTIRELY FREE. I'm not
making money off of it. The only way it could please me more
than it already has is if it helped someone else. It can be
downloaded from:

           http://bcordero.home.sprynet.com/y2kwa.htm

or, more directly:

          http://bcordero.home.sprynet.com/y2kwa10.exe

the latter is a self extracting compressed file with the program,
Y2KWA.COM, plus Y2KWA.TXT which gives a detailed explanation.
Total download size is about 32K.

By the way, the program doesn't do anything intrusive like
get into BIOS and redirect calling vectors. It just updates a
reference file every time it runs.

     Mr. Boyd's article also says...

> Large programs were limited to 1500K in size lest you bog down
> and hog up CPU cycles. Programs larger than 1500K had to be run
> in off-peak hours, not during the business hours. We all
> learned good programming techniques such as overlays so that we
> could squeeze a 2200K program in less than 1500K.

In this same spirit I tried to make this program as small as
possible, compiling it to a .COM file. It still turned out to be
a whopping 19K! I guess I'll have to learn assembler code to
make it any smaller. Sorry for any disappointment.

Thanks again for the article Gerry.

Happy accessing the internet by e-mail y'all.

     Sincerely

                    Bruce Cordero

I've answered this question at least three times in the past 2 weeks...

There are literally hundreds of sites that allow you to have free home
pages.
For a list of them, see The Free Site
http://www.thefreesite.com/freewebpages.htm

There are only two sites that can be accessed by E-mail only users:
AngelFire and InternetTrash

The old work SunZoomSpark did at the AngelFire site is located on their
InternetTrash site. You can get this old work (probably out of date) at:
http://internettrash.com/users/sunzoomspark/afire.htm

The message to the list is in the archive:

GETPOST ACCMAIL 5533

The new work SunZoomSpark did at the InternetTrash site is in the archive

It supports English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portugese. The
short of it is that you send a message to a friend and a cc: copy to the
translation service. They then send the message to your friend in the
language you specify. For more info: http://www.t-mail.com/

A few points first.
First, Mail should have a meaningful subject heading which reflects the
content of the message -- it helps others to find messages of interest
(and is necessary if you receive a lot of messages per day), and it
helps to follow a thread on a particular topic.

Non-meaningful subjects are:
1. empty or blank subjects
2. Subject: I need help
3. Subject: A question
4. Subject: Re: ACCMAIL Digest ....

Second, this list is in English. Please refrain from posting in any
other language.
