Subject: Size of downloadable files

Crossposted to HELP-NET mailing list, too.

Dears,

I have only email access, and have troubles downloading large (in my sense,
greater than 100KB) files. When I receive a web page by agora, sometimes it
offers to download some other files, in html (or any other suffix) format.
Is there any way to find size of such files before downloading them? If
these files are greater than my limit, is there any command to force agora
(or ftpmail) to break them to smaller files?

Thanks,
Mohammad R. Arjomandi

Hello
Does anybody know where I can download Effects for texts which can be used
in programs such as Corel Photo Paint 9 or Adobe PhotoShop 5??

                                                 Thanks in advance

How do you make fast work of that in the digest? There is no way except to
actually select the block of text and delete it every time, I suppose?

I'm sure that like me, many subscribers archive the digests on the local
disk for quick searching (I have more than an year's worth). That's a
couple of megabytes of wasted space.

Also a point to consider: many mail clients do not allow editing of received
messages (Outlook Express being one). You are stuck with an all or nothing
option.

Recently we had a couple of "digests" which had only the one posting - the
daily stats - essentially a duplicate of the stats mailing list! That's
reaching the nadir.

Considering that the digest format is the default for this list, and
presumably the majority of subscribers receive the info this way, Mr.
Sethu's observation regarding the timeliness of the stats should have been a
clinching argument for summarily dismissing the stats from the list.

Well, Mr. Boyd, is it time to reconsider my pet peeve?

You must expand the URL for the full URL for that file.

Example: http://this.site/first.page.html references a file like
picture.jpg, that will be: http://this.site/picture.jpg

Some times there is a tag some thing like base page, that redefines the
location. If it is there, then use that in place of the location of the
original.

My hearty thanks goes to Ma.Cri for starting a nice discussion . I myself have my
personal
opinion about the FTPMail, Agora, etc. statistics. In my point of view these are
definitely
worth posting to the list daily. I use them as my guide to server status . So here I
have a
different opinion than Ma.Cri.
But I think Ma.Cri's proposal of categorizing the server list like agora , www4mail ,
ftpmail is the best proposal made this month. I think this proposal is an useful one.

Any comments ?
