Subject: WWW4MAIL Problem

Hi ACCMAILers,

I requested an URL from www4mail server, and a part of the backed file is:

" Discussions on mentoring in the professional development of teachers"
--Send list commands to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

There is a tick icon before "--Send.." in second line, and I can select and
return the file to the www4mail server to accomplish the task. But this
reduces my quota in that server, and if I can send this command DIRECTLY to
that mail server, this will be VERY FASTER.

But when I sent a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] , with the
"list commands"
in the body (and black subject), the replay was:

> list commands
Invalid option - "COMMANDS". The valid options are Detailed, Global and
SUMmary (minimum abbreviations shown in upper case).

What was wrong?

Thanks,
Mohmmad R. Arjomandi

Subject: Q:Slow sites and WWW4

Hi

I'm some days try download:
http://super.sonic.net/calvert/files/w21src95.exe

On my request www4 return:
___________________________________
Error 408 - Processing of your request (e-mail) has been aborted due to a
time out error.
Exceeded extra URL Download time of 88 seconds.
____________________________________________
How I can avoid this?

Now some question:

Q1: Timeout value equal for all www4 ?

Q2: Command GETPART 9 (of 10) download time(DT) (for www4 server) equal
whole file DT or in 10 times lesser?

Q3: Default GETSIZE for www4 is 300000?
Q3.1: I get 9 of 10 parts(with default getsize), and can't download 1(eg.
part 8) due timeout error, if I set GETSIZE (150000?seeQ3) and get parts 15
and 16, then
p15+p16(size 150k)==p8(size 300k)

Thanks
        Regards
                Alex

~ What can I do to get around this problem? Is there some
~ sort of mail server in the U.S.A. where I could send my

Can you use external SMTP (Port 25) server? Try the following: telnet to
smtp.site1.csi.com Port 25, if you get a reply then you can use one of the
following open relays to send your mail:

smtp.site1.csi.com
mail.des-moines.k12.ia.us
smtp.phon.de

Subject: source codes for tar.gz files

I have successfully got the uudecode.bas file from Simtel, and have used it
to decode uuencoded emails, following Gerry's comprehensive text on
uudecoding.

Now, I find that I have got some ftp files through agora, which are tar.gz.
Can I get the sources code for the files required to decode these files,
using www4mail to get the source codes by mail ? My PC is dos based, and I
have an idea this a unix-to-dos thing, so there are problems. Please advise.

Thanks

Subject: submit buttons

Dear ACCMAILERs,

does anybody knows, how to "push" certain (SUBMIT, or similar, OK, etc.) buttons on
some homepages via WEBMAIL?
To be clear, for instance I want to subscribe a newsletter and I'm writing only my
e-mail address into the textbox. Below the
textbox is a "Submit" button.

Usually, "Submit" button covers an URL.

How can I write to an URL or maybe somebody knows a solution? I hope, this question
has a general interest.

(If this was discussed before, I apologise, I'm a newcomer.)

Tar is a Unix tape archive, similar to a zip file but without the
zipping. The gz file extension is the Unix gzip program. So this file
is a gzipped tar file. You need to download and change the file
extension to tgz. You then gunzip this file and end up with a tar file
extension. You then untar the tar file and Voila, you have an archive
of the files.

For DOS only use these (I use the same ones)

C:\UTILS> gzip -h
gzip 1.2.4 (18 Aug 93)
usage: gzip [-acdfhlLnNtvV19] [-S suffix] [file ...]
-a --ascii ascii text; convert end-of-lines using local conventions
-c --stdout write on standard output, keep original files unchanged
 -d --decompress decompress
-f --force force overwrite of output file and compress links
 -h --help give this help
-l --list list compressed file contents
 -L --license display software license
-n --no-name do not save or restore the original name and time stamp
-N --name save or restore the original name and time stamp
 -q --quiet suppress all warnings
-S .suf --suffix .suf use suffix .suf on compressed files
-t --test test compressed file integrity
 -v --verbose verbose mode
 -V --version display version number
 -1 --fast compress faster
 -9 --best compress better
file... files to (de)compress. If none given, use standard
input.

C:\UTILS> tarread
tarread: usage: tarread tx[vwz] tarfile

This ones a liitle cryptic unless you already know Unix tar commands.
So here they are:
t List the table of contents of the tarfile.
x Extract the named files from the tarfile. If a named
file matches a directory with contents written onto the
tape, this directory is (recursively) extracted. The
owner, modification time, and mode are restored (if
possible). If no filename arguments are given, all
files in the archive are extracted. Note: if multiple
entries specifying the same file are on the tape, the
last one overwrites all earlier versions.
v Verbose. Normally tar does its work silently; this
option displays the name of each file tar treats, pre-
ceded by the function letter. When used with the t
function, v displays the tarfile entries in a form
          similar to `ls -l'.
w Wait for user confirmation before taking the specified
action. If you use w, tar displays the action to be
taken followed by the file name, and then waits for a y
response to proceed. No action is taken on the named
file if you type anything other than a line beginning
          with y.

gzip124.zip (930818) 114K GNUzip: Unix compress/uncompress replacement
ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/compress/gzip124.zip
tarread.exe (870819) 15K Read Unix TAR files on a PC
ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/00_start/tarread.exe

Remember. Download tar.gz file as a .tgz
Then you gzip -d the tgz file which creates a .tar file
Then tarread t the tar file to see what's in it. Place in it's own
directory or onto a floppy disk. Then tarread x the tar file.

NOTE: These will be Unix type file names which can contain periods etc.
This causes problems in DOS because of the 8.3 filename naming.
Normally, I now just leave them as tar files which can be read with any
DOS text editor.
