Suppose I was interested in retrieving article or literature on " William Shakespeare" how should I go about finding the files on William Shakespeare? The next stage will be to retrieve the files, for that also I will need guidance. Short answer: assume you use ZModem file transfer protocol, and ZModem Crash Recovery is set to ON, then DL to the same place and it is automatic. Long answer: It depends: Is it a ZModem download? (File transfer protocol). What software is running on your end when you download? If for any reason a ZModem download is interrupted, then the next time I DL the same file to the same place, the Terminal program (in my case Telix) will automatically detect the partial file and resume the DL from the same place it stopped. (It will be "appended", that is added to the end). To be safe, until you learn how to do this in your situation, make a copy of the partial file before you go for the remainder. It is possible if you try to do it in more than two steps to damage the file. The fewer stages, the better. For this to work the terminal software on your end must know that you want ZModem "Crash Recovery" set to "ON". (Read the DOC file for your software). You might also need to set ZModem Crash Recovery to ON on the online service you use. I use Telix to call a BBS for my email. In Telix, ZModem Crash Recovery is set from the "Protocol Options" menu, under <ALT-O><P>. (Leave out the <> marks). If you do leave Crash Recovery set to OFF, if will instead start another copy of the same file but with an altered file extension, replacing the last digit(s) with a number. If you try several times it will make additional numbered copies of the same file. For ZModem to detect a partial download and append the remainder, it must have an identical filename. If you leave Crash Recovery ON, make sure that you never have a different file with the same name in the place you download to, or both files could be lost. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jul 1999 06:30:09 -0700 From: BPM Mixmaster Remailer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: Upload files on to your FTP. UUencode repeatedly takes in a group of three bytes, adding trailing 0's (zeros) if there are less than three bytes left. These 24 bits are split into four groups of six which are treated as numbers between 0 and 63. Decimal 32 is added to each number and they are ouput as ASCII characters which will be in the range 32 (blank) to 32+63 = 95 (underscore). Each group of 60 ouptut characters (corresponding to 45 input bytes) is output as a separate line preceded by an 'M' (ASCII code 77 = 32+45). So we have 45 bytes in and 60 bytes out, a 1/3 third increase. We could also look at at the bits that converted. That is, 24 bits in and 32 bits out or a 1/3 increase. Because I want to be sure about how many pieces of mail I receive, I use 1.5 instead of 1.33 as the multiplier. I showed my formula as: > 7023880 X 3/2 (uuencode increase in size) / ( 300 X 1024) = 34+ pieces > of mail If you want a closer estimate then use > 7023880 X 1-1/3 (uuencode increase in size) / ( 300 X 1024) = 30+ pieces > of mail -- Gerry Boyd -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jul 1999 12:33:24 -0700 From: "Gerald E.
