Subject: unable to get www4mail@uganisha to send html docs as attachments

Hi List,

How are you all :)

Well I'm having a strange problem here. Since last week, whenever I
retrieve an html doc from [EMAIL PROTECTED] , the html code is
returned. not only that, I have to copy the code from the text window
and then save it as an html file.

What could be the cause of this? I cannot understand at all. I'm using
Netscape Messenger from the Netscape Communicator 4.5 as my email
client.

The funny part is when I try to view old messages with attached html
files, it does so without any problem, just as it used to do.

I've set up my browser to view attachments inline so I should be able to
see any attachments within the email client right?

I've forwarded the message that I find displaying this phenomenon so
could you plese take a look :)

It has been down for months. Promises made, early on, to restore
the service have been less than productive.

In the mean time, I am using http://www.deja.com where you can
set up your own profiles and get emails from the news groups that
interest you. I have live access so it was pretty easy for me. I
don't know how to do it by email only. Maybe someone else can
help you with my.deja and the tracker part.

Let me know how more I can help.

Here's an excellent resource for emailers, absolutely must-know information:

I was quite tickled by the chapter on status cues derived from email
messages and addresses:

particularly in light of my recent travails with my wireworm.com address. I
wish I had it back!

Subject: Custom headers for Outlook Express

For those of you who need to use Outlook Express 5.0, here's a simple way of
adding custom headers to OE mail messages:

1. In the Subject box of the New Message window, type in the
    subject of your message.
2. Press the spacebar twice to leave exactly two spaces after the
last letter of the subject line.
3. Type in the header string; examples:
    X-No-Archive: Yes
    Newsgroups: comp.mail.misc
    Return-Receipt-To: <my@ddress>
4. Ensure you are working offline (File|Work Offline)
5. Send the message (to your Outbox)
6. Select the Outbox folder and use File|Folder|Compact
6. Move the focus away from the Outbox folder
7. Open Outbox.dbx with any hex editor (you surely have one of those,
don't you?), search for the header string and replace the two spaces
(hex 20) with the hex values 0d 0a.
8. Save
9. Send! (Without re-opening the message - that reverses the changes).

You could also probably use DOS debug.

Mail2news gateways require the Newsgroups header, and I find Return-Receipt
notification useful when exchanging mail with corporate mail systems.

In OE4, I used to open Outbox.mbx in a hex editor and over-write one of the
X-headers, padding out with spaces as necessary to ensure that file size
remains unchanged.

Subject: email ping

I have found that "pinging" my own address is a good way of testing the
latency of the email system as well as assuring oneself that email
transmission is working. The addresses listed below immediately echo a mail
addressed to them with all the associaterd headers. The information
returned by way of the message headers can be quite interesting.

I have been using
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
for this purpose, but I find that
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
returns better-formatted results.

Subject: Proof-of-posting and digital time-stamping service

How does one get proof of posting and digital time stamping services for
email? To find out, send an empty email to
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

The service is useful even for those who do not use PGP. You can set up
things to
- provide proof of a certain email having been sent (without authenticating
the sender)
- prove that the contents of an email have not been changed after it was
sent
- provide a fool-proof time stamp for the sent email

There are many other possibilities if one uses PGP encryption - more info in
the newsgroup comp.security.pgp.discuss.

The good news is, the entire range of services offered is accessible by
email only! From the intro:

---quote---
Early in 1995 I was looking for an automatic digital timestamping
service which could be used to corroborate the date at which I
had signed a document with PGP. At that point I could only find
one commercial service and that used proprietary software.

I therefore resolved to setup such a service which would be free
of charge to users. I wanted to use PGP as the signing software
and provide the service by Internet email, which was at the time
by far the most common form of connection to the Internet.

Stamper was therefore launched in October 1995.

In April 1997, proof of posting certificates were added.
---unquote---

The service has been around for some time and is quite stable.

You can't do it by email -- yet. I'm trying to persuade Deja to
implement this function.

Send the plain word "help" (without the quotes) in the BODY of an email
message to any of the Agora or Getweb servers to retrieve the help files.
