These services are pretty much gone. I've determined that Veronica and
Jughead are totally defunct for email users. The Archie by email
servers are also almost extinct. There are only 3 Archie by email
servers left and only 3 gophermail servers. Archie has been moved to
the web in the form of the new ArchiePlex web pages.

These Archie by email servers have all moved to the web:
 *WWW web interface*
   [EMAIL PROTECTED] use http://archie.bunyip.com/archie.html
   [EMAIL PROTECTED] use http://ftpsearch.lycos.com/

   [EMAIL PROTECTED] use http://archie.icm.edu.pl/
   [EMAIL PROTECTED] use http://ftpsearch.lycos.com/
   [EMAIL PROTECTED] use http://archie.switch.ch/
   [EMAIL PROTECTED] use http://ftpsearch.lycos.com/

Notice that 3 of them refer you to the FTP search search site.

Subject: German words with SCH

Hallo,

I'm looking for English words with German origin. I have already written
about it and received a few replies. A good idea is to look for all the
English words with SCH, as it charactises German words.

How can I search in English directories with *SCH, SCH*, *SCH*?
In which directories?

TIA

Subject: can't get file

Hello ACCMail ...

I was interested very much in access to resources of the Internet
by e-mail. To receive some information I was subscribed to Accmail
discussion List.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to me to read in English, and,
to my pleasure, I have found, that there is Russian version
of the text:

Accessing The Internet By Email
Guide to Offline Internet Access
Version 8.3 - June 1999
Copyright (c) 1999, Gerald E. Boyd

For obtaining the file I sent several letters:

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: send accmail.ru
Message area: empty

But Autoresponder instead of the file, necessary to me,
persistently sends Help file For G.E.Boyd's E-mail Autoresponder,
in which it offers to write for obtaining the file:

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: send accmail.ru
Message area: empty

What do I do wrong? Help me to get out from the vicious circle.
Does anybody know where to find something about "internet by e-mail"
in Russian?

With best regards
Victor Pechak

Dear Accmailer,

I just received a file by ftpmail. The file cannot be read, the first line of which is
just like:

(This file must be converted with BinHex 4.0)

How can I restore the original file and read it?

Thanks,

Retrieve this web page which lists several medical chats, listservs, etc.

Sorry, my fault, forgot to change the file. There are now two versions
available:

ACCMAIL.RUD v8.3 Russian Translation
DOS codepage 866

ACCMAIL.RUW v8.3 Russian Translation
Win codepage 1251

BinHex is a Macintosh format, similar to UUEncode but will also
preserve additional file information, which can be used on a Mac.

>How can I restore the original file and read it?

On a Mac, use Stuffit Expander, under Windows use Aladdin Expander to
decode it. Both are available from <http://www.aladdinsys.com>. The
decoded file *might*, however, not be readable under Windows: Text
and most graphics and sound formats are cross platform but a Mac
executable is useless on a PC.

Hi Alex,
This is some parts of faq reply, if you send a blank message to

3.1 What if I am seeking answers to medical research
questions or treatment advice?

For answers to technical research questions, try posing your
question to a topic-specific electronic mailing list. For a
list of electronic medical discussions and how to subscribe
to them, see

1) Medical Forums at:
http://kernighan.imc.akh-wien.ac.at/stz/plattner/a.htm

2) MedWeb -Biomedical Internet Resources Web site, for a
lengthy list located at:
http://www.emory.edu/WHSCL/medweb.html

For medical treatment advice on the Web, try visiting Med
Help International, a non-profit organization which offers
consumer health information and answers to medical questions
at: http://www.medhelp.org

Hope this helps,

Not many left. Gophermail is about it unless you can temporarily get
full access to the 'net to set up an account through MyDeja (old
dejanews.com).

Gophermail methods are explained in the Accmail FAQ and in more detail in
http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/1236/howto2.html
