I noted this story when it appeared in Science Digest in the early '50s.
At that time the target language was Chinese, not Russian, "Invisible
maniac" was "Blind maniac," and computers were not involved at all. It
concerned a young man who translated certain phrases into Chinese and had
an elder render them back into English. So, in answer to the question
"Have we come much farther than this?" I would have to say the reference
point is not valid, therefore the question is not valid.

Subject: www4mail forms using IE5/Outlook Express

I have recently switched from Netscape to IE5 for viewing html files
(forms) returned by [EMAIL PROTECTED] et al.
However, when I press the "Get Selected Documents" button at the bottom of
the page and Outlook Express starts up, all it shows is the "To:" field
filled in, and nothing else. (This is unlike Netscape which just sent the
form with no further intervention.)

Therefore I do not get sent the requested documents.

Can someone offer a suggestion as to what I am doing wrong. I have played
around with OE's setting but can't see anything obvious.

Thanks,

Bob

Both other www4mail servers recently were upgraded and now support
"XFORMREPLY=TEXT" (and also XNOSTAT).

Not really. A good example of how laughable the "output" of translation

I think you can obtain the file directly from your e-mail client.
I use Agent 1.5 (Win98) and when I receive multi-part messages, I select
all the chuncks and select the menu "Message/Join sections".
I hope Outlook have this option too! Probably you can find information
in the help file.

Hi All,

After more investigation, I managed to solve the "invalid name/password"
problem - you have to go into the Options section on the Yahoo! Mail webpage
and actively sign up for POP3 mail. You also have the option of forwarding all
Yahoo! emails to an external address instead of POP3. The 'mailhost.yahoo.com'
address is now invalid.

Not much use for email only users, I'm afraid.

DP.

I can't seem to get my Yahoo! email thro' POP3 :

I tried both the above and then the suggestion on the Yahoo! mail help page :

Incoming Mail (POP3) Server:
pop.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server:
smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Account Name/Login
Name: Your Yahoo! Mail name
(your address without the
"@yahoo.com")
E-mail address:
Your Yahoo! Mail address
(i.e. [EMAIL PROTECTED])
Password:
Your Yahoo! Mail password

The pop.mail.yahoo.com approach got closest, but still said "invalid
name/password".

Has anyone got it to work ?

I have tried Outlook 97 and EudoraPro with no success (with two different
Yahoo! accounts). Normal Web retrieval works OK, but I want a short dial-up
session for POP3, which I prefer.

Subject: Web Page Publishing via E-Mail Limited to Internettrash.com

Dear all,

Most interactions of ACCMAIL users with Internet has
a nature of one-way direction, that is-- requesting web
pages. This hinders the productivity and creativity of
users because they receive information much more
than they themselves can produce and send. I believe
that web page designing and publishing via email can
help email only users to be more active and productive
in their interactions with Internet.

Mr. Gerald Boyd kindly gave some clues about the sites
(Angelfire and Internettrash) which offer free web page
publishing via email. However, my experience is limited to
Internettrash and I have had no success with Angelfire so far.

Is there anyone who can help me with uploading web pages
to Angelfire or similar sites via email?
I appreciate any suggestion from ACCMAIL members.

Yours sincerely,
Kamran Afham

Subject: Interbot & OE4

Hello,

I downloaded Interbot from Juno_Accmail Autobot.

When I finish a category and press "GO" button, only To: and Subject:
fields are correct, but there is no text in the body of the new email
placed in "outbox" folder.

I use OE4.72, and Interbot recognized my email client as:
"Microsoft Outlook Express 4.71.1712.1 Spam Hater"

There must be some Juno_Accmail guys, or others who use Interbot here.
How do you solve compatibility problem between Interbot (v1.20) and OE?
Is there similar
problem(s) with other email clients and Interbot?

Thanks a lot,
Mohammad

Accmailers,

Some of these cannot be confirmed exactly yet as I either haven't found
a contact person or the contact people haven't responded. But I cannot
get responses from:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Deferred: Connection refused by www.undp.org (3
times)
[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- no answer 3 times
[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- no answer 3 times

[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Scotty Southwick is gone and doesn't reply to
email sent to him. I received this from an admin address at Topica.com:

At 09:36 AM 9/2/99 -0700, Salim M Virji wrote the following:

>this feature was removed from Liszt once Topica took over the site.
>How did this error occur? If someone followed a link to get to the

>thanks,
>from Salim

I've sent two more requests to Salim requesting that the email search
address be reinstated but have heard no further...

Gads, pretty soon all we will have left is www4mail and ftpmail...

Haven't decided whether or not to move all of these to the defunct
category. If so, then no more Archie servers by email are left.
